Autumn Days

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Autumn is a lovely time for getting out and about with your little ones, and a nature walk can be a great opportunity to introduce some new vocabulary in your target language.

Talk to them about what you see around you. Describe the texture of the leaves underfoot and the colours of the trees.

As always, singing is a great activity for language learning. Here is a fun, active song about the seasons,  in English and Spanish.

Four Seasons (Tune – London Bridge)

Noisy ducks go quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack,
Quack, quack, quack
Noisy ducks go quack quack quack
In the spring.

Los patitos hacen cuac cuac cuac
Cuac
cuac cuac, cuac cuac cuac
Los patitos hacen cuac
cuac cuac
En la primavera

Pretty flowers grow and grow, grow and grow, grow and grow
Pretty flowers grow and grow
In the summer

Flores bonitas crecen y crecen, crecen y crecen, crecen y crecen
Flores bonitas crecen y crecen
En el verano

Brown leaves fall to the floor, fall to the floor, fall to the floor
Brown leaves fall to the floor
In the autumn

Hojas marrones caen al suelo, caen al suelo, caen al suelo
Hojas marrones caen al suelo
En el otoño

Little people get wrapped up, get wrapped up, get wrapped up
Little people get wrapped up
In the winter

Los niños pequeños se abrigan, se abrigan, se abrigan
Los niños pequeños se abrigan
En el invierno

Colours of the rainbow!

Thursday, October 10, 2013

This week, our little language learners are learning all about colours. We’re having great fun playing with colourful parachutes and matching up the colours with our colour-rific flash cards!

If you want to introduce some new French words for colours at home, try this well-loved song.

I can sing a rainbow

Red and yellow and pink and green
Purple and orange and blue
I can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow too

Rouge et jaune et rose et vert,
Violet et orange et bleu
Je peu chanter un arc-en-ciel
Chanter un arc-en-ciel,
Chanter un arc-en-ciel aussi

I Spy is a great game for introducing colours to older toddlers. ‘I spy with my little eye, something that is….rouge!

Do you have any tips for learning colours through play? We’d love to hear them!
